Red Rangers are hybrid birds bred to fill a niche between fast growing commercial cornish-cross broilers and low body weight commercial egg layers. Commonly referred to as 'multi-purpose' chickens this variety can be used as meat birds when slaughtered at 10 to 11 weeks, or the hens can be retained for their egg laying abilities through maturity. Red Rangers allowed to pasture will develop a more intense flavored meat, and their light brown eggs will be large with richly colored, creamy textured yolks. Red Rangers are sold 'straight run' with no separation of male and female chicks.
