White Silky chickens are one of the more spectacular birds you will see coming out of a commercial hatchery. Their elegant white plumage extends down their legs to create an almost costume look - silkies are also known for their very dark body tissue which makes the meat look as if it was stained with black food dye. They lay a smaller very light colored egg - not particularly prized either for their meat or their eggs (although both are completely delicious) the silky is usually kept for its ornamental beauty. This is another of our specialty varieties, hatched by special request only. Silkies are not debeaked unless requested, are sold as 'straight run' with no separation of male and female, and are vaccinated against Marek's, Gumboro and Newcastle diseases before leaving the hatchery.
